Short answer: for a true luxury riad in Marrakech, book Dar Darma (palace-style, six suites, rooftop pool), Riad Nyla Wellness & Spa (spa and gym) or Riad Sakkan (contemporary design). Expect roughly €210–€325 per night for these three. If you want a high-end boutique feel for less, the seven riads in the second tier start from €110–€160.

How I Chose These Riads
I judged each riad on seven things: privacy and room size, service, design and craftsmanship, food, pool or spa, location and noise, and value for the price tier. I rely on guest reviews, each property’s own information and booking data, and I do not give numerical scores, because a “9.6/10” without a method tells you nothing.
What Counts as a “Luxury” Riad in Marrakech?
A riad is a traditional house built around an inner courtyard or garden; the word comes from the Arabic for “garden”. In this guide I treat three tiers as follows:
- Luxury (€200+ per night): few rooms, large suites, a pool or spa, a full-service team and a high degree of privacy.
- Boutique+ (€110–€160): design-led, small, hospitable, with fewer facilities. Excellent value, but not “luxury” in the strict sense.
- Ultra-luxury benchmark: palace-style properties such as Royal Mansour, La Maison Arabe or Kniza sit above this guide’s price range. They are worth a look if your budget is far higher.
Luxury Riad vs Luxury Hotel in Marrakech: Which Should You Choose?
Choose a luxury riad for atmosphere, a courtyard and rooftop of your own, small-team service and a stay inside the medina. Choose a luxury hotel (usually in Hivernage or Gueliz, or outside the city) for large pools, lifts, parking, a gym with scale and easier car access. Riads sit behind narrow lanes where cars cannot reach, and many have stairs, so they suit mobility-limited guests less well.

Where to Stay: Medina, Kasbah or North Medina?
- Central Medina / Kaat Benahid: walkable to Ben Youssef Madrasa, the souks and Bacha Coffee. Livelier, with more footfall.
- Kasbah: near the Saadian Tombs and El Badi Palace. Quieter than the central souks.
- North Medina (Bab El Khemis): everyday neighbourhood life and quieter evenings, with a longer walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa.
Getting to Your Riad: What to Expect
Taxis and cars stop at the edge of the medina’s pedestrian lanes. Ask your riad to arrange a porter or transfer in advance (airport transfers are commonly offered for around €25, so confirm the price when booking). Share your arrival time, and save the riad’s WhatsApp number. Expect narrow lanes, stairs and uneven floors, and check lifts and accessibility before booking.
Luxury Tier: The 3 Most Luxurious Riads in Marrakech
1. Dar Darma: Best Luxury Riad in Marrakech
Dar Darma is a restored palace-style riad with just six suites, each with its own colour scheme, and a rooftop pool with views over the medina. It sits a few minutes’ walk from the Ben Youssef Madrasa. It is the choice for guests who want opulence and quiet rather than a social scene.
Dar Darma: choose it if / skip it if
- Choose it if you want a private-palace feel, large suites and an exclusive atmosphere.
- Skip it if you want a lively social setting or the lowest price: it is the most expensive in this guide.

|---|---|
| Price from | €325 / night |
| Best for | An intimate, palace-style luxury stay |

2. Riad Nyla Wellness & Spa: Best Luxury Riad for Spa and Fitness
Nyla was designed by Italian architect Mattia Siviero with interior designer Corinne Dressler, and blends contemporary lines with Moroccan craft. It offers a hammam and massage treatments and a fully equipped gym, which is unusual among riads. It is a few minutes’ walk from Bacha Coffee.
Riad Nyla: choose it if / skip it if
- Choose it if wellness and keeping up your fitness routine are part of the holiday.
- Skip it if you want a historic, antique-filled interior: the style is contemporary.
| Location | Medina, near Bacha Coffee |
|---|---|
| Price from | €236 / night |
| Best for | Spa, hammam and gym in a modern riad |

3. Riad Sakkan: Best Contemporary Luxury Riad
Sakkan takes its name from the Arabic word for calm. It pairs Moroccan architecture with contemporary art and has a rooftop restaurant, lounge and bar. It is somewhat larger than the other boutique riads here and sits in a busy part of the medina, so ask about noise and room position when you book.
Riad Sakkan: choose it if / skip it if
- Choose it if you like art-led, modern interiors and a rooftop with a bar and restaurant.
- Skip it if you want classic, traditional décor or a very small, silent house.
| Location | Medina |
|---|---|
| Price from | €210 / night |
| Best for | Design and art with a rooftop scene |

Boutique+ Tier: 7 High-End Riads From €110–€160
These are not ultra-luxury, but they offer a high standard of design and service for a lower price.
4. Riad Kheirredine: Best for a First Visit
A traditional house with carved plaster, zellige tilework, fountains, a courtyard and a rooftop terrace, known for its personal service and individually designed rooms. It is popular, so book well ahead. Skip it if you need large resort-style facilities.
Location: Medina · From: €160 / night

5. Riad Yasmine: The Most Photographed Courtyard Pool
Opened in 2002 and run by owners Alice and Gabriel, Yasmine has eight rooms and an emerald-green tiled courtyard pool. Rooms often sell out months ahead, and the courtyard is quietest early in the morning. Skip it if you want a spa.
Location: Medina · From: €160 / night

6. Riad Le Pèlerin: Best for Food
Seven rooms, each named after an Amazigh village, and a reputation for home-style Moroccan breakfast and dinner. There is no pool. Skip it if a pool is essential.
Location: Medina · From: €156 / night

7. Riad L’Atelier: Quiet and Close to the Sights
In the Kaat Benahid quarter, a short walk from the Ben Youssef Madrasa, with a small courtyard pool and rooms around the courtyard. Small, so book ahead in peak season. Skip it if you want a lively social vibe.
Location: Kaat Benahid · From: €146 / night

8. Riad Dar-K: Best Intimate Riad (4 Rooms)
Renovated in 2019 with two double rooms and two suites, a courtyard plunge pool and a rooftop terrace. With four rooms only, availability is tight. Skip it if you want on-site spa or restaurant facilities.
Location: Medina · From: €140 / night

9. Riad Kasbah & Spa: Best Spa in a Quieter District
In the Kasbah district, near the Saadian Tombs and El Badi Palace, with a courtyard pool, spa and rooftop terrace. The district is calmer than the central souks, but it is further from the Jemaa el-Fnaa area.
Location: Kasbah · From: €134 / night

10. Riad El Aaiún: Best Adults-Only Riad
Part of the Maison Brummell collection of boutique properties, near Bab El Khemis in the quieter north of the medina. It has a rooftop pool and zellige-and-calligraphy artwork by Noureddine Daïfallah, and it is adults-only. The walk to the main sights is longer.
Location: North Medina, Bab El Khemis · From: €110 / night

Best Time to Stay in a Luxury Riad in Marrakech
- March–May and September–November: about 25–30°C, ideal for pools and rooftops.
- June–August: often above 40°C. Book a riad with a pool and plan sightseeing early and late.
- December–February: sunny days, around 20°C, but cold evenings on rooftops. Ask whether rooms have heating, since many riads can feel chilly.
